Infrastructure & Hosting Engineer (freelance)
Stand up and run the hosting for a privacy-first, EU-based SaaS — multi-tenant cloud today, self-host tomorrow.
Freelance · remote (EU-friendly hours) · part-time / ongoing
Maevu’s application is built in-house (Rust, Haskell, a constraint solver). What we need is someone to own the ground it runs on: set up the hosting for our alpha and keep it healthy, secure and affordable — with a clear path from a hosted multi-tenant cloud to single-tenant instances and self-host images.
This is a hosting / platform role, not core application development — you own the infrastructure and the operations.
What you’ll do
- Stand up the hosted alpha: provisioning, networking, TLS/DNS, secrets and environments — reproducible from code (IaC), not clicks.
- Own CI/CD — build, test, deploy — so shipping is boring and safe.
- Design pragmatic multi-tenant isolation for the shared cloud, with a path to single-tenant instances for larger customers.
- Set up observability (logs, metrics, alerts), backups & recovery, and sensible runbooks for a small team.
- Package the product for self-hosting (containers / images / charts) so customers can run it themselves — a first-class path, per our open-core stance.
- Keep it secure, patched and cost-aware, and lay ops groundwork that will support ISO 27001 later (evidence-friendly by design).
Who you are
- Solid DevOps / SRE / platform background; you’ve owned production for a real product.
- Fluent with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), containers (Docker), CI/CD, Linux, networking, TLS/DNS, and an observability stack.
- Comfortable on AWS and ideally an EU cloud (Hetzner / Scaleway / OVH) — privacy-first, EU-hosted is a core promise, not a checkbox.
- Pragmatic: you right-size for an alpha and scale later, instead of over-engineering on day one.
Nice to have
- Multi-tenant SaaS isolation and self-host / on-prem packaging experience.
- Running Rust services in production.
- ISO 27001 / SOC 2 operational experience; OIDC / secrets / identity.
- Lightweight orchestration (Nomad / ECS / Fly / Kubernetes where it earns its keep).
The deal
Freelance, remote, part-time and ongoing — an initial setup engagement, then a maintenance retainer. We value judgement and reliability over buzzwords.
